Prior to buying Bulldogs, make sure you are knowledgeable on the characteristics of the breed and can provide the future companion with proper care. If you are going to purchase an English Bulldog, keep in mind that these dogs are prone to a variety of health conditions. Traits were bred to the point that breeders have always tried to emphasize and even exaggerate the physical peculiarities of the breed. As the result, the English Bulldog of today has a very short muzzle, which leads to breathing difficulties.
Keep in mind that Bulldogs always need to be provided with a lot of shade and fresh water. They can overheat easily. The average life span of the English is much lesser in years than as compared to those of the French and American Bulldogs.
French Bulldogs are prone to overweight bodies, so it is recommended to provide them with daily exercise. This is probably one of the most important things to consider when caring for these dogs. As for the American Bulldog, this breed has fewer hereditary disorders, yet should also be provided with regular veterinary care.
When buying a puppy, ask the breeder for the health certificates and pedigrees that will prove the origin of the puppy. Even if you are not going to show your future Bulldog, it is wise to buy a pedigree dog, as this will ensure that the dog will conform to the official breed standard. Ask for advice on caring for Bulldogs as it
will benefit your dog in the long term.
